In an effort to reinvigorate its competitive presence under its new identity, AlphaTauri is set to strengthen its collaboration with Red Bull, directed by their mutual energy drink owner earlier this year. This escalating alliance is expected to spur the development of a new facility in the UK, home to increased aero staff, and to augment the customer parts for its 2024 contender acquired from Red Bull.
Earlier this year, hints were dropped that AlphaTauri would vie for a replica of the RB19 vehicle from Red Bull. However, the technical director, Jody Egginton, dismissed these claims. According to him, the volume of parts derived from the sister team’s stock will not vary significantly from previous years.
“Since 2019, the array of parts chosen off the list have been rotating, and next year will follow the pattern,” said Egginton. He added that the parts expenditure for customer teams always entailed a price consideration. Thus, while taking into account the budget, they intended to utilize as many resources as possible to their advantage.
“News reports have suggested a particular narrative, however, we simply adhere to three regulatory frameworks—sporting, technical, and financial. [Red Bull] headquarters advise making full use of available resources,” Egginton commented.
Recently, he admitted their strategies have been more pronounced, particularly due to the pressure of heightened scrutiny stemming from uncompetitive performance. However, Egginton noted that the headquarters’ support and encouragement for both teams to exploit the regulations to their utmost capacity proves highly beneficial.
There is yet to be a determination on whether the Red Bull parts AlphaTauri will handle in 2024 will be current edition or yesteryear’s model. However, the technical head underscores that meaningful strides have already been made towards fabricating their own new chassis.
Egginton concluded by pointing out that their aerodynamics concept does not diverge significantly from any other teams on the grid, despite their car not being the highest performer. He underpinned that while the chassis would be largely altered, the overall concept change is already aligned with the direction envisaged by other racing teams. The main objective now is to realize these goals more effectively.
