Aston Martin will require assistance from Red Bull suffering a breakdown or experiencing a slow pitstop in order to win Grand Prix races over the 2023 season, says Formula 1 driver, Fernando Alonso. The Silverstone team has been performing impressively as of late, being placed ahead of Mercedes and level with Aston Martin for 38 points in the championship. In fact, the reprimand placed against Alonso‘s team in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix was successfully appealed and they were reinstated to third place. Still, Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz has admitted he requires an upgrade package in order for the SF-23 to reclaim the second spot, whereas previous hopes rested upon slight alterations to the car’s setup.
Max Verstappen has claimed that Aston Martin could win the season, prompting Alonso‘s response. “We need some help from them, but it will happen eventually when they cannot finish always first and second.” Alonso continued to state that the AMR23 was fairing better on the Jeddah Corniche Circuit compared to the Bahrain opener, with Red Bull maintaining an obvious lead. Alonso is optimistic that the team’s performance will continue to improve, and hopes to witness Aston Martin leading Formula 1 races in future.
