Alpine CEO Laurent Rossi, amidst ambitious plans to magnify the sales reach of the French sportscar maker, found it essential to direct more focus towards the company’s motorsport activities – an area he believed needed more attention than he could personally provide.
Famin is set to report directly to Rossi and will be entrusted with overseeing all of the company’s motorsport endeavours, which encompass Formula 1, sportscar racing and Rally-Raid ambitions. In the latter, Alpine’s technical expertise is currently being channelled into supporting Dacia’s Dakar project. Additionally, Famin will also steer the Alpine Academy, the company’s programme for nurturing young driving talent.
Notwithstanding the adoption of these fresh duties, Famin will simultaneously continue to spearhead the F1 and motorsport engine division at Viry-Chatillon as its Managing Director, a role he has fulfilled since 2022 set in.
Famin was selected for his extensive experience and knowledge in motorsport. His career began at Peugeot where he was involved in numerous projects including the well-known 905. He ascended to the position of technical director of Peugeot Sport in 2005, and was subsequently appointed director of the company seven years later in 2012.
During his tenure, he drove the company towards triumph in the Le Mans with the 908 model, and also secured a Pikes Peak victory in 2013 with Sebastian Loeb. Furthermore, under his leadership, Peugeot clinched three Dakar Rally victories between 2016 and 2018, in addition to the 2015 World Rallycross Championship.
In 2019, Famin transitioned to the FIA as Director of Operations. However, he was later recruited by Alpine in 2022 to lead its engine division amid a company reshuffle, all part of a strategic move to accelerate its F1 objectives.
In appointing Famin, Rossi is also making further efforts to create various functional hubs within Alpine. He has recently assigned Philippe Krief as VP of Engineering and Product Performance, and Antonino Labate as VP of Sales, Marketing & Customer Experience.
