The lure of the endurance classic has sparked the interest of Ferrari‘s seasoned driver, revealed after witnessing Prancing Horse’s Hypercar squad victory with admiration this year. Reports are surfacing around his future aspirations to participate in a race around the iconic Circuit de la Sarthe.
In a candid interview with F1 Initiative, Leclerc divulged further plans, stating his aspirations to compete alongside his younger brother, Arthur. The younger sibling is a current F2 driver and also a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy.
When asked about the possibility of collaborating with his brother in the famous Le Mans race, Leclerc candidly admitted, “Oh, yes…many times.” With apparent excitement, he continued, “It’s definitely something I want to do one day, and with my brother for sure. But I don’t know if this will happen.”
Leclerc’s other prospective teammate is Antonio Fuoco, the current WEC driver for Ferrari. Fuoco shares a long-standing friendship with Leclerc, adding another potential dynamic to Leclerc’s dream team. “There’s Antonio also, he’s part of the Ferrari family,” Leclerc shared. Adding, “He is one of my best friends and we grew up together. He is already training for that day!”
A lot of variables need to fall into place for this dream team to materialize, considering their diverse racing categories. Leclerc added, “Let’s see if it’s possible and if it works out with all of our plans…But maybe one day.”
An excited Leclerc witnessed this year’s Le Mans first-hand. Ferrari‘s triumphant return to the top class, a position untouched since 1973, was worthy of him taking note. Despite a second-place finish after seizing pole position, the Maranello operation came back strong, marking a historic moment.
Commenting to Eurosport Channel regarding Ferrari‘s triumphant return, Leclerc said, “It feels absolutely amazing, obviously especially having a Ferrari winning.” He continued, “It’s incredible after a return after so many years. A very special edition.”
However, Leclerc highlighted an unfortunate incident involving a small impact with a rock that cost one of the Ferraris much-needed time. Yet, he remained positive, expressing his contentment for Ferrari‘s victory, and lauding it as an incredible experience.
In his closing remarks, Leclerc gushed, “I’m just extremely proud of what Ferrari has done today, it’s been crazy.” His excitement wasn’t just palpable, but contagious, as fans and the rest of the Ferrari family rejoiced in this monumental achievement.
