Despite claiming that he would steer clear of F1 this season, Grand Tour presenter Jeremy Clarkson has been unable to resist the allure of the sport. After attending the Bahrain season opener, he gave a shout-out to all the teams he would be supporting, but specifically mentioned Alpine, a team based close to him. During the Monaco Grand Prix, Clarkson tweeted his support for the Enstone-based team, promising them a round of beers if they secured a podium finish. His wish was granted when driver Esteban Ocon finished in third place.
After the race, Clarkson made good on his promise, arriving at the Alpine factory with his tractor and a trailer full of beer. The team welcomed the delivery, thanking Clarkson on social media for “delivering on his word”. Never one to miss an opportunity, Clarkson also managed to place branding for his brew on the Alpine F1 car. Although Clarkson may not have anticipated the weight of expectation that came with his support, he was undoubtedly pleased to see Alpine take to the podium with Ocon‘s impressive performance.
