Brad Pitt surprised everyone by attending the usual drivers briefing in Formula One on Friday at Silverstone, UK. Lewis Hamilton jokingly remarked that it was the best briefing he had ever attended. Pitt’s upcoming untitled F1 movie commenced filming at Silverstone this week, and it has its own garage and pitwall stand as a fictional 11th team called ‘APX GP’. The driver boards above the 11th garage displayed the names of “F1 drivers” Sonny Hayes and Joshua Pearce, who are portrayed by Pitt and British actor Damson Idris respectively. The filmmakers have been utilizing empty slots in the Silverstone race schedule to capture footage of their modified F2 car on track, which will be incorporated into the movie. Hamilton, who is a producer on the project, serves in an advisory role.
Pitt joined Hamilton and the other drivers on Friday evening, a time typically reserved for competitors to discuss important matters with F1 and the FIA. Hamilton expressed his enthusiasm for Pitt’s presence during an interview after qualifying, describing it as the best drivers briefing ever. Pitt briefed the drivers on the plans for the movie and its filming schedule. The movie crew is expected to be present at other races later in the year.
During the briefing, Ferrari‘s Charles Leclerc, Hamilton, and Pierre Gasly posed for a selfie with Pitt. Leclerc revealed that the 59-year-old actor emphasized that the filming schedule would not hinder the drivers’ preparations on race weekends. He further explained that Pitt and the film crew understood the drivers’ responsibilities and did not want to cause any disruptions. Leclerc was optimistic about the collaboration and believed it would result in an incredible movie.
Fernando Alonso initially expressed nonchalance towards Pitt’s presence on Thursday but changed his tune by Saturday. When asked about Pitt’s appearance and his good looks, Alonso laughed and confirmed that Pitt was indeed as good-looking in person as he is on screen. Alonso found it cool to have Pitt and the crew in the briefing, briefing them on their plans and apologizing in advance for any inconvenience caused. He hoped that the drivers could assist in making a good movie.
Although F1 drivers have been experiencing a surge in popularity lately, Mercedes driver George Russell admitted that it was initially surreal to spend time with someone as renowned as Pitt. Russell mentioned that when meeting worldwide superstars for the first time, such as Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, or Roger Federer, it takes a moment to realize that they are just regular human beings. He described Pitt as someone who jokes around, has a good time, and blends in with the rest of the group. Russell was excited to see the outcome of the movie.
The film’s release date and title are currently unknown.
