Ferrari‘s Charles Leclerc says he remains optimistic about the future of the team despite a disappointing start to the 2023 season. The Monegasque driver has only scored six points so far, with his car struggling to keep up with the competition. Ferrari has also suffered staffing upheaval with the resignation of key figures such as car concept chief David Sanchez and sporting director Laurent Mekies. Nevertheless, Leclerc believes that team principal Frederic Vasseur has a clear vision for the future, saying that he is “very confident” in their ability to improve performance.
Leclerc acknowledged that Ferrari‘s situation both on and off track has been challenging, but expressed hope that the team will recover. He praised Vasseur’s openness about his goals for the team and reiterated his trust in the Italian outfit. “If I need to choose one team that can [make the necessary step forward], it’s Ferrari,” Leclerc said, adding that he is “confident” in the team’s ability to achieve its goals.
Despite rumours linking him to Mercedes, Leclerc denied having had any talks with the German giant, saying that he was “fully focused on the project I am at today: which is Ferrari.” He expressed his faith in the team and stated that he is committed to helping the team turn its fortunes around.
Leclerc hinted that the team has made some progress in addressing the issues that have plagued them this season, saying that “these three weeks I think it was good to reset, to look a little bit at the things where we can optimise the package that we have.” He acknowledged that there is still a lot of work to be done, but seemed determined to do his part in turning the situation around.
With rumours swirling around his future, Leclerc seems firmly committed to Ferrari for the time being. He believes that the team has what it takes to get back to the top of Formula One and is optimistic about what the future holds. Ferrari still has a long way to go this season, but with Leclerc and Vasseur leading the charge, there may be hope yet for the legendary Italian racing team.
