Nicholas Latifi, a seasoned Canadian Formula 1 driver, has been lying low since relinquishing his seat at Williams at the end of last season. He has built quite a reputation with the team, having begun 61 races; his finest achievement being securing the seventh place in the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix.
Instead of making a shift to other racing categories, Latifi has declared a different path. He has announced on social media that, after careful consideration of his career path this year, he has decided to quit racing entirely to pursue studies.
In his detailed post, he described the strangeness of this change, deviating from the routine that he had followed for more than half of his life. He revealed that he had to contemplate on what comes next for him, either within racing or something diametrically opposite. He chose the latter.
Latifi mentioned that he always had a fascination for the business domain and envisioned studying it at the university if he hadn’t taken the racing route. With this interest in mind and the thought of taking a hiatus from racing, he finally chose to obtain an MBA degree that would shape the next chapter of his life. He admitted that he considered pursuing an MBA even in his post-racing career, possibly in his late 30s or early 40s.
Latifi also disclosed his effort put into finding the best place for his studies and preparing his applications after his decision to pursue an MBA. The grueling process has finally yielded fruit, with his successful application at the London Business School. He added that he’ll commence his MBA course in August this year, expressing the severity of the application process at business schools.
Latifi confessed that while he had ample opportunity to go back to racing, the fact that he was dislodged from F1 presented a golden opportunity. He saw it as the appropriate time to explore his passion in the corporate realm.
However, he hasn’t completely ruled out the possibility of getting back to racing. He stated that even though racing has been an integral part of his life since he was 13, he felt that it’s the right time to delve into his other interests. He added that he will initiate this new sojourn with anticipation, while expressing gratitude to his support system throughout his racing journey. He ended his address with a hopeful note, desiring to continue receiving their support as he voyages into unfamiliar territory.
